It was a great night for the CH&CO Education at the Foodservice Cateys 2021 as the team was crowned Education Caterer of the Year.
We may be biased, but this was an incredibly deserved award in recognition of the team’s phenomenal response to the Covid-19 pandemic and the closure of schools.
It’s often said that ‘from adversity comes innovation’ and in the case of CH&CO Education, the excellent innovation was ‘From The Kitchen’.
‘From the Kitchen’, CH&CO Education’s virtual, interactive magazine, continued the important conversations around food and nutrition, taking them from the dining room into pupils’ homes. Each edition engaged pupils, parents and carers and supported home-learning in a fun, informative and interactive way, showcasing easy to make recipes, cooking tips, nutrition and sustainability facts, quizzes, supermarket swaps and tutorial videos. Participation was high and schools’ social media were bursting with mouth-watering images of the children’s culinary creations.
The judges praised the team for forging ahead through the pandemic, creating new ways to connect with children at home and crucially keeping kitchen open for vulnerable pupils and children of key workers.
Deborah Homshaw, CH&CO’s Managing Director, said on winning the award: “It was an absolutely wonderful moment and I’m so proud of every single team member – from the operations and support teams to our wonderful frontline teams across the country in all our schools. Their unwavering hard work, resilience and determination to do the very best for the children in our schools is inspiring. They all deserve huge congratulations. It was truly a team effort and I thank them all for their exceptional work and contribution.”
Deborah and representatives from the CH&CO Education team collected the coveted award at the Foodservice Cateys Awards event, which took place on Friday 8th October at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge, London.
