Growing bodies need Vitamin D to build and maintain strong bones, muscles and teeth.

But even a healthy, balanced diet can’t supply all the Vitamin D we need because most of it comes from the action of sunshine on our skin. Foods like herring and eggs are rich in Vitamin D, but to maximise wellbeing all year-round, the Department of Health actually recommends that during winter months, children should take supplements of the ‘sunshine vitamin’.

“We maximise nutrient intake through our menus, encouraging our pupils to choose healthy balanced options in a fun and interactive way,’ says Edel Lewis, Marketing Manager, Independent. ‘It has to be informative and fun to keep our junior customers aware and engaged.’
