Double recognition for the Café at the Palace team

The team at the Café at the Palace in Edinburgh is celebrating double recognition for the uplifting, Scottish destination experience it offers its visitors.

It’s been awarded the VisitScotland Taste Our Best award for the third year running and shortlisted as a finalist in the Heritage & Arts Establishment of the Year category for the SLC Awards 2019.

Run by the national tourism organisation for Scotland, VisitScotland, Taste Our Best is an accreditation scheme that celebrates businesses who serve up locally-sourced, quality food and drink for visitors to Scotland. At least 40% of the menu must feature Scottish produce to get the award, and with ingredients such as Angus beef, Scottish smoked salmon, Perthshire baked potatoes, Edinburgh Gin and, of course, haggis, neeps and tatties, the Café at the Palace menu does just that. The café was also scored, in a mystery shopper-style assessment, on the effective way it communicates provenance to customers and the overall visitor experience.

The SLC Award Heritage & Arts Establishment category spotlights venues, including heritage and historical visitor attractions, focusing on the guest experience and how they compete against high street restaurants. The team at the Café at the Palace stood out to the judges for significantly increasing footfall through it’s celebration of Scottish produce, development of the Afternoon Tea offer and innovative approach to marketing that has made it a destination of choice for visitors to Edinburgh and local residents alike.
Laura Amos, general manager at the Café at the Palace said: “We’re so excited to have received this double recognition. We work hard to create a menu and destination that showcase the fantastic produce of Scotland and give visitors a memorable and authentic experience. To receive the VisitScotland Taste Our Best Award for the third consecutive year confirms our commitment to Scottish ingredients and provenance

“It’s also fantastic to be an SLC Award finalist. The team works incredibly hard and it’s their enthusiasm that ensures we always innovate and keep our offer fresh and our visitors happy. We look forward to finding out the results at the awards event.”

The SLC Awards winners will be announced at a special event in London on 11 September. Good luck to the Café at the Palace team!
