CH&CO officially feeds people well

CH&CO proudly lifted the Feed People Well Award at the Sustainable Restaurant Association’s (SRA) Food Made Good Awards 2019, in recognition of its innovative approach to feeding school children well and inspiring a positive lifelong relationship with food that’s good for them and the planet.

The Feed People Well award is designed to recognise the foodservice businesses doing the most to support their customers make choices good for their health and the health of their families when eating out.

Feeding thousands of children every day presents CH&CO’s schools business, which includes CH&CO Independent, Principals by CH&CO and ABsolutely by CH&CO, with a massive opportunity and the Food Made Good Awards’ judges were convinced the caterer is using its influence to seriously positive effect.

Family cooking classes, fruit and veg growing programmes, and educational visits from nutritionists are just part of its plan to feed schoolchildren well and develop a positive lifelong relationship with food. As well as overwhelming positive feedback from children, parents, teachers and governors, a two-thirds increase in school meal uptake at one school is proof positive of its approach.

Emma Hill, Head of Food, Health, Safety and Environment, at CH&CO, said: We’re thrilled to have won this award and for our important work to be recognised in this way. Through the intrinsically nutritious food we prepare and the interactive way in which we serve and talk about it, we have a fantastic opportunity and a responsibility to educate the whole community – from pupils, parents and families to school employees – on the impact food choices have on our bodies, wellbeing and the planet.”

Raymond Blanc, the SRA President, said: “Tonight’s winners of the Food Made Good Awards demonstrate that we can take risks, influence our guests to make better choices and use creative skills to ensure that every meal we serve has a positive impact.”

At the special awards ceremony held at The Troxy, London, CH&CO stood alongside some of the UK’s best-known restaurant and café brands as well as independent operators, caterers and suppliers, as one of the 20 winners rewarded for their positive response to the climate crisis, with a host of innovative and impactful ways of reducing their environmental impact and increasing their positive impact on society.

In 2018, CH&CO became the largest and most diverse contract caterer to be awarded the top-level three-star Food Made Good rating by the SRA.
