Apprentice chef, Stephen Tomlinson, scoops LACA Award
Congratulations to Stephen Tomlinson who works at Chellaston Academy in Derby with ABsolutely by CH&CO. He claimed the Apprentice of the Year accolade at the LACA (Lead Association for Catering in Education) Awards for Excellence 2018. A great achievement!
Stephen has been involved in the CH&CO Chefs Academy for the past 12 months and in this time his skills and confidence have developed significantly.
Speaking to Stephen before the awards he said: “When my manager suggested enrolling for the academy I was really worried as I had never done anything like it before. I now love my job even more! I’m so proud to have been shortlisted for this award. However, I couldn’t have done it without the support of the people and development team and all my colleagues at Chellaston.”
Operations Manager, Rachel Dargie has played a huge role in Stephen’s development. At the awards, Rachel said: “To say I’m proud is an understatement. I’m not only proud of Stephen but I’m proud to be part of a company that can make things like this happen and give people opportunities they may never have dreamed of.”
“The academy has given me the opportunity to meet and work with other people,” added Stephen. “I’ve also taken on more responsibility thanks to the new skills I’ve learned. I can really see a future in catering and I’d love to run a kitchen one day – something I’d never have imagined saying a couple of years ago.”
Every year the LACA Awards for Excellence acknowledge individuals and teams of people who continue to make a real difference in education catering.
Stephen’s fantastic achievement was recognised and celebrated at the LACA gala awards dinner on Thursday 12 July.
