Sargeant’s Mess to open for early May Bank Holiday

Sargeant’s Mess, the new all-day restaurant, bar and deli from renowned chef Mark Sargeant, will open on 4th May. The Tower of London restaurant, created in partnership with independent hospitality group CH&Co and Historic Royal Palaces, the independent charity that cares for the Tower of London, will launch in time for the early May Bank Holiday weekend, with guests offered one third off their food bill at the restaurant during the soft launch week Friday 4th – Thursday 10th May.

Set within the Tower of London environs, Sargeant’s Mess will offer spectacular views of the Thames and Tower Bridge, and will serve a menu of seasonal modern British dishes that reflect the heritage of this historic London landmark.

The kitchen will be headed up by chef Simon Oakley, who has worked with Mark for over five years and been instrumental in crafting the Sargeant’s Mess offering. Of the partnership Mark comments, “Our aim at Sargeant’s Mess is to create a modern British diner – we feel that this historic location demands a menu that focuses on well-executed, iconic British dishes, offering quality food that is accessible and affordable.”

Accordingly, breakfasts will feature Cumberland sausage bun with caramelised onions (£6.50) as well as Smoked haddock kedgeree cake with poached egg (£9.50). At lunch and dinner guests can enjoy the likes of Atlantic cod with dripping chips, mushy peas and tartare sauce (£17.50) and Steamed suet pudding of the day with mash, mushy peas and gravy (£16.50). Daily specials, all priced at £15.50, will also be available, including Pressed shoulder of lamb served with minted potatoes, Slow cooked pork belly with mash potato and minted peas, and a Sunday roast of Angus beef, Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, greens and horseradish (£4 supplement). An accessible wine list, premium beers and seasonal cocktails have been chosen by Mark and Simon to complement the food offering.

The adjoining cafe-deli will make office lunch options more interesting with takeaway grab-and-go bites including filling sandwiches from £6.50, featuring Smoked ham hock, maple syrup, cheese and English mustard toastie and Roast rib of beef, watercress, wood-fired peppers, pink pickled onions and horseradish mayonnaise on buttermilk bloomer, vegan salads from £10 and fresh, seasonal soups, all served in biodegradable packaging.

An extensive outdoor terrace with impressive views across the river and a dedicated bar serving prosecco on tap, frozen cocktails and beer slushies throughout the summer months makes Sargeant’s Mess the perfect alfresco spot this summer. For a quintessential British outing, cakes and afternoon tea will be available every day from 3pm – 5pm, in which guests can enjoy the daily-changing cafe selection of scones, muffins and cakes.
